Mackenzie

Site

New home on acre lot in Maple Ridge. Intense 16' elevation difference from street to front door sil to be accomplished with creative retaining wall plan developed by FocalPoint. Call in the Pros. Thus creating a relatively flat rear yard.

Intention

Develop a retaining wall plan to satisfy all elevations from the bottom to the top including a driveway in the middle. Along with a lighting plan, irrigation plan and planting plan. Providing privacy from the street to the front door without blocking views out from inside of house. Privacy from North neighbours as well from their 72 windows facing my clients home. There is to be RV parking in the second garage. Provision for a future pool; indoor ideally. Planning around the septic bed and tanks. Pretty much the works.

Solution

After plans are in place and approved for permits. Installation of walls began. Forming vertical walls (especially curved!) takes a monstrosity of talent. FocalPoint is not that skilled in the arena of concrete. We called on a 'skateboard park' installation company for this high task. They did an amazing job bringing my plans into reality... super impressed! No errors; least amount of popcorning as possible. Just artwork. I pushed for my client to approve colour in the concrete of their walls as a cold grey just wouldn't do justice to the front of this home as its all warm colours. They approved. The look? Right On.

Horizontal Coloured Stamped Concrete Boarders with Exposed Aggregate inlay (tried to get the exposed to have a warm colour added; they didn't budge on this - but a big upgrade from the original red they were headed toward before I jumped aboard the planning team)

Complex logistics of getting materials into the new walls followed the forms being stripped. FocalPoint moved in an abundance of Garden Blend Soil, plants in the theme of 'French-Classic' and Composted Bark Mulch. Installed the backyard plant material as well.
